Goals
 
Goals and Objectives: The student will learn number recognition and counting by “lighting” the candles. He will match each numbered felt candle to its correspondingly numbered candle holder on the felt menorah. He will then match the numbered flames to the correctly numbered candle. The student can also practice color recognition by “lighting” a colored candle with a flame of the same color.
Skills Needed: Students require fine motor skills to manipulate felt pieces.
Skills Developed: The student will develophand-eye coordination, pincer grasp, spatial discrimination, visual discrimination, comparative behavior, counting and pre-math skills.
 
Materials
Materials needed for felt board:
  • 2 legal size folders (9”x14”)
  • Black felt for felt board background approx. 28”x16”
  • Glue stick
  • 3M double sided tape #469
  • Scissors
  • Laminate
Please note that if you only wish to temporarily change the background color of an existing felt board you will need a piece of black felt 30”x18”and clear or maskingtape.   Materials needed for Chanukah number/color matching:
  • Small pieces of felt  about  5 “x7 “  – in blue, green, orange, pink, purple, red, maroon and yellowor any 8 different colors of your choice.
  • Small piece white felt about 5”x7”
  • Felt sheet 9’X12” royal blue
  • ½ felt sheet 9”x6” yellow felt
  • Felt sheet 9”x 12” in any light neutral color
  • 1 sheet silver glitter adhesive backed foam approximately 9”x12”
  • ½ sheet yellow glitter adhesive backed foam approximately 6”x9”
  • Small square yellow felt  4”x4”
  • 2 felt sheets 9”x12” turquoise felt or color of choice (for “curtain” border trim)
  • Menorah templates (attached)
  • Die cut menorah #2 – use die cut of large candle or attached template
  • Die cut star tiny #28 or attached template
  • Die cut border scallop #9 or attached template
  • Black number stickers ½”. Need 3 of each whole number from 1-8
  • Clear tape
