The Ner Tamid (the westernmost flame of the menorah that was lit each day) burned in the Mishkan, and later in the Beis HaMikdash, and miraculously remained lit even when the other six candles of the Menorah went out. This candle was never extinguished by wind or air. Air is difficult for young children to conceptualize. If it can’t be seen, does it really exist? This experiment will turn air into something concrete that can be observed. Air cannot be seen, but we can clearly see what it does. The students will force the air out of an empty milk container, causing a lit candle flame to be extinguished.
