Pharaoh ordered the Jews to build the cities Pisom and Raamses. Because the land was swampy, the buildings sank into the ground. To better understand what happened let’s experiment with quicksand! The students will concoct a corn starch based recipe with the properties of quicksand. The mixture will act as a solid or a liquid depending on the rate of movement of those interacting with it. See a “How-To” video below.
The students will mix ingredients to form a substance that reacts to pressure. They will compare its response to varying speeds of movement and note what happens to objects placed on its surface.
