This Kohen Gadol breastplate project is an easy and fun project to construct while learning all about the stones of the 12 tribes (according to Rashi’s opinion). The students will also learn to coordinate the tribal names and color of each stone.

Goals and Objectives: | The students will learn about the breastplate that Kohen Gadol wore over his heart and the names and letters carved on the stones, so that all of the tribes were represented and that all of letters of the Alef-Beis could be found on the choshen. Students will learn how Hashem responded to questions of national importance by causing specific letters to light up, revealing Hashem’s responses. (We followed the opinion of the Chizkuni, who follows the opinion of Rashi regarding the placement and colors of the stones, regarding the additional letters on the choshen and their placement.) |
