Crash Course

ABOUT THE COURSE

Is your home up to code?

Give your child the chance to master the basics of coding — at home! By the end of the course, kids will be able to create animations and simple games using the Java programming language. This eight-week course is perfect for coding newbies in sixth grade and up who are comfortable reading and typing. You’ll need a computer with internet access to download the program and material, but your child will be able to complete coding challenges offline.

WEEKLY RAFFLE

Exciting prizes motivate kids to keep on coding! Children earn entries to our weekly raffle by completing coding challenges and submitting their results. You can email submissions to programs@walderlab.org as screenshots, videos or source code, or you can upload projects to openprocessing.org and send us a link to view them there.

Please be sure to include the coder’s name, school and grade level when submitting challenge projects. Happy coding and good luck!

COURSE RESOURCES

Every week, kids watch four 10-15 minute video lessons, each accompanied by a detailed handout and coding challenge which should take them 45 minutes to an hour to complete.
