פרשת תצוה

ונשא אהרן את שמות בני ישראל בחשן המשפט על לבו… לפני ה' תמיד | שמות כ"ח, כ"ט

Aharon shall bear the names of the sons of Israel on the breastplate of judgement on his heart…as a constant remembrance before Hashem.

Simply read, the possuk informs us that when Aharon HaKohen wore the choshen (breastplate), the names of the twelve tribes that were inscribed on it were physically located close to his heart.

However, HoRav Shmuel Rozovsky zt”l offers a more sublime interpretation of this possuk.

In Meseches Ovos, Aharon HaKohen is depicted as “loving peace and pursuing peace, loving people, and bringing them closer to the Torah.” By using the phrase על לבו (on his heart), the passuk alludes to the empathy and concern that Aharon felt for each individual’s needs – not just Klal Yisroel as a whole.

It was with this mindset that Aharon served in the mishkon, seeking Divine favor for each individual within Klal Yisroel.

We are the Aharon HaKohen of our talmidim and keep them, each individually, close to our hearts at al times.
